Do log cabins need a base?

Yes. Every log cabin requires a strong, dry, level base for proper installation.
The best option is a solid concrete slab, though a fully paved, level surface can also work.
A good concrete base ensures long-term stability, reduces movement, and prevents moisture issues.

Can I customise a log cabin?

Absolutely. We specialise in bespoke log cabins built to your needs.

Popular custom options include:

  • Tailor-made cabin sizes
  • Custom door and window positions
  • Upgrade options depending on the model

For custom enquiries, email sales@coolaliving.ie.

How are log cabins delivered?

Once your order is confirmed, your cabin goes into production.

Delivery Process:

  • We contact you before dispatch to confirm a delivery date.
  • Delivery is made by a 26-ton HIAB crane truck.
  • The cabin is craned off the lorry and placed as close as safely possible to your property.
  • If access is tight, please let us know in advance.

📌 Important: We cannot crane packages over houses or major obstacles.
If you require exact package dimensions, just ask — we can provide all measurements.

How long does assembly take?

Most customers assemble a log cabin in one full day.
Less experienced DIYers may need 1–2 days.

Every cabin includes:
✔ Full assembly instructions
✔ All required fixings
✔ Access to our online video guides

We also maintain a list of recommended installers nationwide if you prefer a professional build.

Do log cabins require maintenance?

Yes — regular maintenance is essential for long-lasting performance and weather protection.

Maintenance Checklist:

  • Keep space around the cabin for annual treatment.
  • Treat the timber immediately after assembly with a high-quality wood preserver.
  • Apply multiple coats, paying extra attention to bottom logs and joints.
  • If painting, use a clear preserver underneath your chosen paint system.
  • Re-treat the cabin every year, inside and out.
  • Keep the roof clear of leaves and debris.
  • Make sure no branches touch the EPDM roof covering.

Your instruction manual also includes helpful tips, including uPVC window and door adjustments.

Do I need to insulate a log cabin?

Insulation is optional, but recommended for year-round comfort.
For the best natural heat retention, we recommend our 44mm log cabins.

A small smart heater can warm an uninsulated cabin, but insulation greatly improves comfort and efficiency.

Floor Insulation:

  • Install 30mm Kingspan PIR under the supplied floorboards.
  • Ensure PIR insulation does not directly touch the concrete slab.

Air Tightness Improvements:

  • Apply airtightness tape behind skirting boards, door frames, and window frames.

Warm Roof Method (Pent Roofs):

  • Add 50mm PIR insulation externally on top of the roof.
  • Add new marine plywood before fitting the EPDM membrane.
  • Request extra EPDM material when ordering to allow for the added roof height.

Rear Wall External Insulation:

  • Some customers add external PIR insulation to the back wall (the unseen side).
  • This can be finished with fibreboard and a rendered surface.

If you want insulation guidance for a specific cabin model, just ask.

Do I need planning permission?

Our log cabins are designed to remain under 2.5m in height.

However, planning rules vary between local authorities, so we strongly recommend checking with your local County Council.

It’s also good practice to chat with your neighbours — many love how attractive and tidy these cabins look once installed.
Also Leave room around your Cabin to Maintain it!
