Yes – all wooden sheds need to go on a firm and level base. This could be a concrete base, paving slab base, timber bearers, or any other suitable base solution which is firm and level.

How do I level the ground for a shed base?
To level the ground for a shed base, first, remove any grass, weeds, or debris. Then, use a spirit level and a long, straight timber or a piece of string to check the evenness of the ground. Add or remove soil as needed, compacting it firmly to ensure a stable and level base.

If you have opted for one of our timber bases, these can be placed directly onto grass surfaces. We provide stakes to be placed into the soil and to be secured to the base when positioned at a level height.

Can I build a shed directly on the ground without a base?
It is not recommended to build a shed directly on the ground without a proper base. A shed base provides essential support, stability, and drainage, helping to prevent the shed from shifting, settling unevenly, or becoming damp, which can lead to structural damage over time.

We recommend that you fit weed barrier under and around your base to stop the growth of vegetation under your shed.
